Dermal Filler Treatments at dermalclinic® Edinburgh.
As we age the skin loses its elasticity causing our facial expressions to develop lines and hollows. Common examples are the lines at the side of the mouth ie from the nose to the sides of the mouth. Dermal fillers are very safe injectable gels which provide hydration and structure to smooth away the appearance of lines, wrinkles and creases, and enhance facial shape. They are used to plump up and temporarily fill in these lines which have developed, and can be used alone or in combination with botulinum toxin.
There are different brands of dermal filler available and each brand typically offers different variants of their product to suit different treatments. For example, the product for lip enhancement will be different to that for fine lines around the eyes, or to that used for the backs of hands.
Some dermal fillers are used more superficially for lines and some, such as Emervel Volume™ and Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™, are used for deeper volumisation to replace a reduction in the supporting structure of the face which commonly happens as we age. This reduction can be easily seen when comparing a middle-aged adult’s face with that of a young adult. The effect of treatment with Emervel Volume or Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ can last up to 18 months.
Here at dermalclinic®, we always strive to ensure our treatments are as pain-free as possible, so even though dermal fillers contain Lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) we will still offer you a complimentary dental block, so that your lip/mouth area is completely numb, and therefore any treatment is totally pain-free.
None of the products used by dermalclinic® are permanent, and all have extensive scientific support. In fact, we occasionally have patients that have been treated elsewhere requesting corrections of their treatment or even removal. Modern dermal fillers composed of hyaluronic acid can be removed without concern.
Common treatments include those for expression lines such as lines at the side of the mouth, nose to mouth (nasolabial) lines, lines around the mouth (smile lines and smoker’s lines) and also lip enhancements. However, we can also use dermal fillers for non-surgical face lifts, non-surgical nose jobs, scar repairs and other concerns that you may have where some volume is required.
