Many patients tell us how much happier and more confident they feel after being acne-free. Appropriate and effective assessments and treatments such as ours can help provide this freedom & confidence once again.
Acne is an inflammatory disease that affects the hair follicle channel and the associated sebaceous glands that produce sebum or oil. This is a very common condition that affects people of all ages although it’s most frequent in adolescents (80%) and young adults (20-30 years). At dermalclinic® we’re increasingly treating people in their thirties and forties who are still silently suffering with acne breakouts. They often tell us that they’ve been to the GP and still have had little success. Fortunately, acne is curable. With timely and effective treatment, it’s possible to prevent the development of acne & undesirable scars while improving skin complexion and overall physical appearance.
Dr. Andrew MacKenzie, Consultant Dermatologist, holds regular clinics at dermalclinic® and his expertise provides the ideal skillset to identify and treat the worrying condition of acne in adults and teenagers alike. You can read more about Dr. MacKenzie and his experience here.
Some patients with acne have small scars (dimples, reddish spots), particularly on the face and back. These scars can be improved through a chemical peel with TCA or salicylic acid (SaliPeel). Deeper, older scars can be improved with a suitable peel or with Genuine Dermaroller. We can also provide a retail Anti-Acne pack for home maintenance for Acne sufferers.

There are several treatments available for acne, some of which are only available from Consultant Dermatologists such as Dr. MacKenzie. This ensures that the variety of treatments available is larger and Dr. MacKenzie is able to offer the full range of treatments and will cater these to best treat the individual patient. This includes oral isotretinoin (trade name Roaccutane), a Vitamin A drug which is the gold standard in treating severe, scarring, or recalcitrant acne.
Roaccutane has well documented efficacy and long term results being the most powerful and effective treatment for long term definitive resolution of inflammatory acne lesions. This is due to its permanent effects to normalise the skin, which include: reduction in sebum production, normalisation of follicular keratinisation, reduction of Propionibacterium acnes and its related pro-inflammatory effects.
As well as treatments such as Roaccutane there are also topical treatments that are only available from medical practitioners which can provide excellent results. Dr. MacKenzie can identify the most suitable treatment regime for you.
